Fun studies set at camp
Martinsburg - Martinsburg High School continues to School during a summer camp in math and science on "Reach For The Sky", where participants have almost too much fun to remember they are learning.
The camp, sponsored by MHS, is the first execution by teachers in science and mathematics school. Although the camp has already started for this week, a science teacher and president Wanda Miller said applications are still being accepted for next week.
The camp will be held 9:00 to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday in high school.
"The camp is in fourth or fifth graders from any school or home-schooled," said Miller."We chose these grades because they are now very excited and not bored with learning."
During camp, students study subjects to do with flying. While "nature in flight" is the theme of this week, including birds and planets, subject next week will be "the man on the run."
"We will watch the planes, rockets, hot air balloons. ... It's about how man has "reached the sky" through theft, "said Miller.
Students will also have the chance to use iPads to live a variety of applications of science.
"They have a lot of fun and hope to sneak in learning while having fun," said Miller. "They end up learning a lot and do not realize it."
Fourth-grader Brady Fields, 9, prepares to attend Orchard View Intermediate in the fall.
"The camp was really fun," said Brady. "We thought the atmosphere of each planet and the birds did. We looked at under the microscope birds. ... The school can be great fun."
The cost is $ 120 for the week, and all proceeds go towards supplying the camp. Applications can be picked up and submitted to the MHS.
Students are encouraged to bring a lunch and a snack per day.
