OU Closes USA Championships with Six Top-10 Finishes
EUGENE, Ore. — Oklahoma athletes closed out 2011 action with six top-10 finishes at the USA Track and Field Championships Sunday at Historic Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon. Mookie Salaam led the way with a seventh-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.43 in the event’s finals.
Salaam advanced to the finals with a time of 20.48 in the third heat of the event’s semifinals. The women’s 200 saw OU alum Leslie Cole finish 10th in the event with a time of 22.97, just off her season best of 22.91.
NCAA runner-up in women's long jump, Ti'Anca Mock took 10th in the event Sunday with a jump of 21 to 4.25 (6.51). Mock best effort came on her third attempt, as it was a little over an inch of qualifying for the finals of the event.
UO alum Ronnie Ash took sixth in the 110 meter hurdles with a final time of 13.27. Ash advanced to the finals of the event after successfully 13.24 semi-final less than two hours before the final.
The 2011 NCAA champion in the javelin, Brittany Borman finished seventh in the event with a throw back to 170-7 (52.00).The junior was the top ranked college in the case with his best start of his attempt to come to the sixth and last.
Former Sooner Kevin Bookout finished 10th in the shot put with a throw best season of 64 to 6.50 (19.67).
Eric Bailey ended his college career with a 12th place finish in the 400 meter hurdles. Bailey were defeated in the semifinals Saturday with a time of 51.53.
